The story introduces us to Roxy, a fiercely independent and stubborn aspiring actress determined to make ends meet through unconventional jobs, including singing telegrams and even a brief attempt at stripping. Her life intersects with Louis, a privileged playboy lawyer, who becomes instantly smitten after a whimsical kiss delivered in a pink bunny suit. The narrative revolves around his persistent pursuit of Roxy despite her constant attempts to push him away.
While the premise holds potential for a light-hearted and engaging romance, the execution left me somewhat underwhelmed. The dynamic between Roxy and Louis grows repetitive rather quickly, with their interactions following a predictable pattern: Roxy oscillates between showing interest and shutting Louis out, while Louis remains unwaveringly fixated on her. Because of this cycle, there was little room for character growth or emotional arcs.

Roxy’s characterization, though vivid, bordered on frustrating at times. Her relentless independence and tendency to misjudge situations often came across as overly dramatic and, at moments, needlessly petty. It became hard to empathize with her or to root for the connection between her and Louis. Meanwhile, Louis' sudden transformation from a self-proclaimed playboy to a lovesick hero strains credibility within mere pages.
Moreover, the relationship lacked depth, focusing predominantly on physical attraction rather than emotional connection. The story leaned heavily on instant chemistry and lust, but the absence of an emotional reckoning or heartfelt moments of realization made their bond feel superficial. An epilogue or more significant resolution could have provided the closure and development that were noticeably missing.
While it might initially present itself as a romantic comedy, it leans more heavily into a steamy romance, with minimal humour to balance the intensity. Readers seeking a sweet and light-hearted rom-com may want to reconsider, as the narrative aligns more closely with romantic erotica. The writing style is accessible, and the narration flows well. The premise certainly had potential, but the lack of variety in the plot and the overly drawn-out conflict left the story feeling somewhat unbalanced.

A steamy romance with bold, headstrong characters might be an entertaining story for readers who enjoy steamy romances. However, for those hoping for a deeper emotional connection or a comedic undertone, this book may not quite deliver.

3/5
