Bee, a passionate woman in STEM, eagerly embarks on an exciting new project with NASA, driven by her enthusiasm for promoting women in STEM fields. Her thrill is palpable, even when she discovers she'll co-lead the project with her college rival, Levi Ward. Although Levi's apparent dislike of Bee has always puzzled her, it won't dampen her enthusiasm; she's determined to shine.
Levi is the standout character in this book. He's the true MVP, earning top-tier book-boy status. Who can resist a gruff hero harbouring a long-standing crush on the heroine? The palpable longing between them was my absolute favourite aspect. I also appreciated how Levi defended Bee and their communication, while somewhat predictable, was nonetheless fantastic and heartwarming.
Bee and Levi made an absolutely endearing pair. He had shades of Adam, yet he was undeniably his own unique character. Bee, on the other hand, was delightfully eccentric, especially with her sincere admiration for Marie Curie. Admittedly, her obsession could be a tad excessive sometimes, but I'm all for characters who stand out and have distinct voices.
This book encompassed all the elements of a perfect romance: a captivating plot, an endearing and charming couple, a stellar supporting cast, delightful banter, and, above all, exquisite writing. I couldn't ask for more to bring joy to my reading experience. Ali Hazelwood crafts charming and seamless narratives that, in one way or another, delve into significant themes like toxic relationships, gender inequality, those maddening tests that turn our lives into a nightmare, and more. Even when the clichรฉs occasionally become overly apparent, I wouldn't alter them. Ultimately, a successful romantic comedy relies on finely honed clichรฉs.
If I were to choose the one aspect of this book that brought me the most enjoyment, surprisingly, it isn't the romance; it's the writing itself. Ali Hazelwood's distinctive style, a captivating mix of snark and humour, truly captivates me. Many times, I found myself grinning from ear to ear, quietly chuckling as Bee engaged in her witty and sarcastic conversations or inner monologues. It's as if she voices all the thoughts I wish I could articulate if only I possessed the quick wit and cleverness to do so.
My Rating:
3.5/5
