This non-fiction book is a rich tapestry of the authorโ€™s personal reflections, woven together as essays on Various subjectsโ€”from environmental issues and technological advancements to shifts in social culture, ranging from the past to the present. Through these essays, the author describes how our lifestyle, technological landscape and social norms have transformed since the 1980s. The narrative is thoughtfully composed and intellectually stimulating, compellingly contrasting our contemporary existence and the pre-millennial era.

The author delves into the evolution of our entertainment industry and collective mindset, discussing how our societal values and responsibilities towards the community and future generations have shifted. The book serves as a mirror, reflecting our potential missteps and their possible repercussions on those who will follow. Itโ€™s filled with profound observations that invite the reader to pause and reflect, often compelling one to underline key passages.

Did I find enjoyment in this book? Absolutely. The reason lies in its ability to shed light on the often-unseen ways we meander through life, conforming to societal pressures without deep consideration. The author astutely critiques our growing disconnection from community and social environments, illustrating how we are swept up in trends to project an image of modernity and happiness on social media while many grapple with underlying loneliness. Our lives, increasingly dominated by smart gadgets, have reduced simple pleasuresโ€”such as playing Ludo with friendsโ€”to digital interactions. The book poignantly reminds us that genuine connection and the essence of living fully lie beyond our screens, urging us to recognize our dependence on devices. Two topics in the book particularly resonated with me: "To My Kids on Father's Day" and "Father's Letter to His Daughter." These sections stood out as especially moving and insightful.
This book is well-suited for a broad audience, but I especially recommend it to those with a mature and philosophical outlook. While it may not cater to the conventional tastes of fiction enthusiasts, its depth and self-reflection offer valuable insights. I also encourage members of Gen Z to read it, even if they might not fully grasp all the nuances. The authorโ€™s extensive experience, spanning from the early 80s through the millennial era to the present Gen Z period, provides a wealth of perspectives that are well worth exploring.
