So That Happened is a delightful romantic comedy that follows the journey of Annie, a woman determined to restart her life after an office romance goes disastrously wrong. Uprooting herself, she moves out of state for a new job, but the trip is far from smooth. Seated next to a reserved, buttoned-up grump on the flight, their first impressions of each other are less than ideal. When circumstances force them to share a cramped hotel room with only one bed for the night, both are less than thrilled. Things take an even more awkward turn when Annie discovers on her first day at her new job that the grumpy traveller, Liam, is her new boss.
Despite the rocky start, Annie soon realizes she may have misjudged Liam. An introvert who grows sweeter with every encounter, Liam finds something in Annie that brings him to life. Their evolving relationship is heartwarming, with Liam having to tread carefully if he hopes to develop something significant with his employees.
The characters in the book are wonderfully crafted. Annie's journey is relatable and endearing, while Liam breaks the mould of the typical alpha male boss, offering a refreshing change with his genuine, kind-hearted nature. Liam's family adds a fantastic layer of warmth and humour to the story, particularly Legs, whose relationship with Annie is funny and touching. The secondary characters, Luke and Mindy, are an adorable and supportive couple who enhance the story with their charm.
The author's writing is simple and engaging, making for a fast-paced read. The narration is excellent, and the dual POV format allows readers to fully experience both Annie's and Liam's perspectives, providing a well-rounded view of their story.
If you're looking for a fun, sweet, quick, and adorable read, I highly recommend So That Happened. This book is sure to bring a smile to your face and warmth to your heart.
