June, a charming donut shop owner, stands petite in stature, her memory still haunted by her high school nemesis, Mr Darcy, also known as Ryan Henderson. Their almost-kiss on graduation day lingers in her mind, his sudden withdrawal etched into her memory. Now, a thriving entrepreneur, she braces herself to encounter her old foe at her best friend's wedding, anticipating a far cry from the handsome man he's become.
Ryan, too, carries memories of June close to his heart. Despite his success as the youngest three-star Michelin chef, there's a void he feels only she can fill. His high school crush never faded, and he sees this reunion as a chance to reconnect. Perhaps the playful yet sweet adversary from his past holds the key to what's been missing in his life.
I thoroughly enjoyed the vibrant portrayal of the big southern family. It was delightful to revisit the lives of Jake and Evie from The Match and get a small glimpse into their world again.
The book is crafted with simple language, facilitating an effortless read. Its smooth narration contributes to its fast-paced nature, making it an enjoyable experience. I feel somewhat disappointed by the story due to the portrayal of the protagonist, June. Despite being 30 years old, her character came across as an immature and childish. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance and romantic comedy.
My Rating:
4.5/5
