Time, or Kaal, is one of the most profound and mysterious concepts in Vedic philosophy and modern science. Unlike the human-made constructs of calendars and clocks, time itself is Anadiโwithout a beginning and an end. It is eternal, existing beyond creation and destruction, flowing ceaselessly through the past, present, and future. In Vedic wisdom, Kaal is not merely a measure of moments but a cosmic force that governs the cycles of existenceโbirth, growth, decay, and rebirth. The universe operates within this infinite framework, where even the grandest celestial events follow the rhythm of Kaal. A fascinating aspect of ancient scripture is that it acknowledged time's boundless nature while aligning daily, seasonal, and cosmic cycles with its eternal flow.
Letโs explore an entirely new genre. While this book falls under non-fiction, it is far from a conventional self-help guide. In fact, despite being classified as underworld history on Amazon, I believe it transcends that classification. This book feels like a fascinating fusion of Vedic Science and Mathematicsโalmost like a comprehensive essence of the Vedas. It provides logical explanations for many aspects of life that we often accept without question. For instance, weโve all grown up knowing that a week consists of seven days, a year has twelve months, and there are 365 days in a year. But have we ever paused to ask why? Why not five, eight, or ten days in a week? Why twelve months instead of twenty or six? I had never given it much thoughtโuntil I read this book. It was truly enlightening to discover that every aspect of our daily lives is rooted in logic. Nothing is arbitrary. The answers lie within the wisdom of the Vedas, where Vedic Science and Mathematics offer profound insights into the fundamental structures of time and existence. This realization made the reading experience both eye-opening and intellectually rewarding.
This book is meant for everyone, yet not everyone. While I believe that all should read it, it demands a fundamental understanding of Sanatan Dharma, some knowledge of Sanskrit, and a profound curiosity about the world. I must admit, until the second chapter, I questioned whether I could complete it. After all, this isnโt a genre we typically read. However, from the third chapter onwardโwhen the focus shifted to Vedic MathematicsโI found myself genuinely engaged. Why? Because mathematics has always been my favourite subject. That is the beauty of this bookโthere is something in it for everyone. For me, it was the profound connections between mathematics, Vedic science, and ancient philosophies. For others, it might be the intricate connections to physics, the historical insights, or the exploration of astrology and astronomy. In short, regardless of oneโs interests, one will find something fascinating within these pages to keep the reader engaged. What I mean is that this book offers something unique to each reader. My interest was piqued by the exploration of mathematics, Vedic science, and ancient philosophies that kept me engrossed. For others, it might be the intricate connections to physics, the historical insights, or the exploration of astrology and astronomy, yoga, or Ayurveda. In short, regardless of oneโs interests, these pages are always full of fascinating information to captivate the reader. It is a fast-paced read, yet it necessitates a slower approach when reading the mantras. Yes, you read that rightโthis book contains numerous mantras. Thatโs why I mentioned the importance of knowing basic knowledge of Sanskrit. Since childhood, Iโve learned that pronunciation is crucialโmispronouncing a mantra can alter its effect. Thus, when reading, one must take time to absorb and understand them. That said, thereโs no need to worryโthe author has provided English translations, making the book accessible. If you love logical reasoning, if youโre curious about the world around us, if youโve ever wondered why our elders emphasize the significance of the Vedas, or why we have seven days in a week, twelve months in a year, and twelve zodiac signsโthen this book is for you. And thatโs why I sayโit is for everyone, yet not for all. The language is simple, but the depth of knowledge it offers is profound.
One of my favourites was the section on Vedic cosmology and geographical insights. While watching Sri Krishna, Mahabharata, or Ramayana, we have all come across the terms Bharatvarsha and Jambudvipa. Many of us know that Bharat is a part of Jambudvipa, but have we ever wondered why our land is called Bharat or Bharatvarsha? Some may be familiar with the reasoning, but what about Jambudvipa? From childhood, we have learned that there are seven continents (Mahadvipas). But why precisely seven? Why not five or nine? How was this determined? We can find answers in the Vedas, timeless scriptures that provide profound insights into the past and the future, revealing largely unexplored concepts. It is fascinating to note that the Vishnu Purana, which historians estimate was composed around 400 BCE, describes the existence of seven continents and seven oceans. This ancient wisdom, preserved in our sacred texts, continues to offer remarkable perspectives on the structure of our world.
Have you ever wondered why Somwar is called Somwar and not Mangalwar? Or why Brihaspatiwar follow Budhwar instead of preceding it? The sequence of our seven-day week is fixed and universalโit has existed since the beginning of time. This book delves into the reasoning behind this arrangement, making it a fascinating read for anyone curious about the logic behind our timekeeping systems. It also explores how ancient civilizations measured time, why a day consists of 24 hours, and the significance of terms we commonly use, such as Pahar in dopahar or muhurta in auspicious timings. Many of us are familiar with the concept of muhurta, but have we ever considered how it is determined? The book unveils the intricate system of Vedic timekeeping, which is both precise and awe-inspiring.
Another aspect I found truly captivating was the discussion on Ayurveda, an ancient medical science that holds remedies for even the most complex aspects of the human body. The book also explores the science behind dreams, the logic behind Surya Namaskar having twelve poses, and the significance of each posture.
When we hear statements such as Columbus discovering America or Newton establishing the law of gravitation, it is crucial to understand that these were not acts of creation but of revelation. America had always existedโColumbus made it known to Europeans. Newton's genius lay behind observing, understanding, and scientifically articulating gravity's principles. It is interesting to note that ancient texts, such as the Upanishad Bhasya, already acknowledge the existence of this concept, stating that the Earth attracts. It serves as a reminder that much of what we perceive as modern knowledge has deep roots in ancient wisdom, waiting to be rediscovered and understood in a new light. The Vedas are a timeless guide, offering profound spiritual wisdom, mathematical precision, scientific knowledge, and practical insights into the art of living. These ancient texts beautifully bridge the mystical with the empirical, providing knowledge and tools that enrich every dimension of human existence.
If you have a logical mind, a deep-seated curiosity about the origins of our world, or a desire to understand why the Vedas hold such significance, this book is for you. If youโve ever wondered why a week consists of seven days, why a year has twelve months, or why there are twelve zodiac signs, this book will offer fascinating insights. So that is why I said it is a book for everyone. While the language is simple and approachable, the knowledge is profound.
