Taking place in a petite Indian town in the year 1978, the tale commences with the savage killing of a young man that sends shock waves throughout the community. The local police department is perplexed by the crime, and it becomes the responsibility of the young police officer Shankar Sen to unravel the mystery. As the officer delves deeper into the investigation, he realizes that the case is more intricate than he initially assumed. Despite several robberies occurring in the town, the murdered young man was well-regarded and had no known adversaries. As the book falls under the genre of a thriller, I prefer not to divulge too many details about the plot. I suggest getting a copy to unravel the mystery yourself.
In this book, a wide range of characters is presented to the readers, such as Dr. Daphader, Advocate Harsh, Reporter Nitya, and several others. The narrative takes the readers on an exploration of Callipur and its neighboring regions, including Sahibganj, as the investigation into the murder progresses. I liked the way the author depicts 'The Club', the time period when television was a rarity, and people would join clubs for their entertainment and social life. The book offers a glimpse into how people spent their leisure time and interacted with one another at these clubs.
The plot is well-crafted, with plenty of twists and turns that will keep readers guessing until the very end. The pacing is just right, with enough action and suspense to keep the story moving forward without feeling rushed. The author also builds tension throughout the story, creating a sense of urgency that keeps the reader engaged. One of the strengths of the book is the author's writing style. The descriptions of the settings and characters are vivid and detailed, transporting the reader into the world of Callipur. The characters are also well-developed, with each one having their own unique personality and motivations.
The unique aspect of this book is that it is set in the year 1978, a time before the existence of mobile phones, CDR, advanced forensic tools, and other modern technologies. The investigations are conducted in a small city with a limited police force, providing readers with a glimpse into how experiments were carried out during that era. This adds to the book's appeal, as readers will enjoy learning about the methods used in those days.
Overall, "Broken Dreams A Callipur Murder Mystery" is an excellent thriller that is sure to satisfy fans of the genre. The book offers a gripping plot, well-developed characters, and excellent writing, making it a must-read for anyone looking for a good mystery novel. I highly recommended it!
